Steve Thompson has served Yeovil Town in many capacities - player, coach, assistant manager, Caretaker manager and twice as the manager itself.

Steve started his playing career with Saltash United in the Western League, whilst in the RAF.

He later played for Bristol City, before moving to have spells with Torquay United and Slough Town.

Signing for Wycombe Wanderers in 1992, he helped them win the Conference and FA Trophy double a year later, before playing in both divisions two and three of the Football League.

Steve moved to Woking in 1996, helping them to lift the FA Trophy in 1997, while also represented England at Semi-pro level.

Steve originally joined Yeovil Town as a tough tackling midfield player in 1998, and later moved on to serve as Assistant Manager and First Team Coach under the management of David Webb, Colin Addison and Gary Johnson.

It was under Johnson that he really made his mark, developing as a coach and in the process formulating his own ideas for success.

The Johnson/Thomson era was undoubtedly the most successful in the club's history with the FA Trophy won in the first season of their partnership.

The following year the two took the Glovers into the football league for the first time, winning the Conference with record points and record goals, with promotion to League One coming two seasons after that as Yeovil rose again, this time as League Two champions.

When Gary Johnson left the club in September 2005 Steve took over as manager for the rest of the season and guided them to a very respectable 16th place.

In May 2006 Steve resumed his former role of assistant manager and first team coach - a position that he has over the years proved to be a major strength, and now working alongside Russell Slade, he has played a massive part in helping to steer the club into a new and exciting era.
