Scattered on the open terrace at Saltergate, the Yeovil Town supporters witnessed a Glovers comeback in this game as Marcus Stewart grabbed a dramatic goal with just a minute left on the clock to earn his side an unlikely point, so keeping them in touch with the chasing pack at the top of League One.
Coming into the game Russell Slade reverted to a 4-5-1 formation, having played a more conventional 4-4-2 last week against Oldham.
This change came about presumably to play it safer away from home, but also to accommodate the one enforced change of Kevin Cooper coming in for Lee Morris who had failed to recover from a hamstring injury.

This than saw the team line up with Steve Mildenhall in goal, joining a defence of Terrell Forbes and Terry Skiverton in the centre, Nathan Jones at left back and Mark Lynch on the right.
Paul Terry played the holding role in midfield, with JP Kalala and Chris Cohen in the centre, Arron Davies on the left, Cooper on the right and Marcus Stewart on his own up front.
After their victory over West Ham in the week Chesterfield started the game with confidence, knocking the ball around nicely and getting into some good attacking positions.
The Glovers were equal to them though, with Jones and Stewart combining well for an early move into the box.

Davies was lively on the wing too, with an early corner by him coming to Kalala to lay the ball off in the centre to Paul Terry to send in a half volley that went just over the bar from seven yards.
The Spireites had Yeovil under a bit of pressure in that opening ten minutes, but with the defence in good form there seemed little chance of conceding.
Chesterfield did have a good opportunity though when on 11 minutes Larkin got in a good deep cross to Paul Hall at the far post to send in a header which forced Mildenhall to tip the ball over his cross bar one handed.

Both teams continued to attack well, with Hall a real handful for Chesterfield, and Stewart, Cohen, Davies and Jones looking good for Yeovil, but with two in-form defences in operation chances were far and few between.
It was entertaining though, and the Glovers faithful kept up the inspiration with some enthusiastic singing.
The game had slowed a bit by now, with both sides being more measured in their attacks, with only a Kevin Cooper shot over the bar to show for the Glovers efforts for the rest of the first half.

As the half moved into the final 15 minutes Yeovil started to dominate the game with some good possession.
Jones and Davies were seeing plenty of the ball on flanks, and with the midfield looking solid the team came forward well as a unit, but with the Chesterfield defence looking solid, opportunities to score were virtually non-existent.
Hall and Larkin were still looking lively for the Spireites, and this was proved well on 41 minutes when the latter received the ball on the edge of the box and sent in a good shot that forced a good low saved from Mildenhall.
The half seemed destined to end goalless, and that's just how it ended up.
It had been entertaining though, but with few chances created by his side Russell Slade would surely have been looking for improvement in the second period.

Looking to create those potential scoring opportunities, Russell Slade brought on Wayne Gray for Paul Terry at the start of the new half, reverting to a more adventurous 4-4-2 formation.

However, it was the home side who looked the livelier at the start of the proceedings, with some spirited attacks that saw Paul Hall go close in the first minute.
A few minutes later they went one better and scored.
A free kick was awarded on the far left hand side of the Glovers' box and sent in by Kevin Hurst to the heart of the Glovers box for the unmarked Alan O'Hare to come in from close range to bang the ball into the back of the net. 0-1.
The goal heightened the enthusiasm of both the home team and their supporters as the Yeovil box was now attacked with force.
It took some brave defending by Skiverton and Forbes to keep the Chesterfield advantage down to one, and with it the Glovers gradually started to gain more possession and get in some attacks of their own.

There was plenty of good passing football coming in from Russell Slade's men, but still no end product.
Chesterfield were still well on top though, and with it they were looking the more likely to add to the game's goal tally.
As the match moved past the 60 minute mark Arron Davies was starting to get a lot more of the ball on the flank, and with the rest of the midfield growing in stature plus Gray showing enthusiasm up front there was always a chance of an equaliser, but as yet no fresh chances on goal had been created.
In the 70th minute the Gaffer played two trump cards, bringing on Anthony Barry and Ishmael Welsh for Arron Davies and Kevin Cooper.

Obviously looking for a bit more creation, this tactic started to bring success, with Cohen going close a minute later when receiving the ball in the box following a long throw by Mark Lynch.
Time was fast running out though, and certainly if Yeovil were to get anything from this game they would have to start producing quickly.
Chesterfield were still well on top too and attacking with confidence as they kept the ball in and around the Glovers box for long periods.
Yeovil needed that little spark of magic in order to get that all-important goal. Some of the players in Gray, Cohen and Stewart seemed capable, but as the minutes ticked by an equaliser seemed less and less likely.

Then just as hope seemed to be lost, the Glovers surprised most present by finally scoring the equaliser with just a minute to go!
Ishmael Welsh received the ball on the left side, and after a bit of trickery he sent it into the box to the far post for Cohen to head back into the centre for Marcus Stewart to come in with a low dipping header from 12 yards. Superb! 1-1!!

So in the end the Glovers managed a hard fought point. This was not gained from one of their best displays, but was still earned from one which was committed and determined.
City next week! Yeovil will have to raise their game in order to compete, but with a quality manager having put together a quality squad, you can feel sure that they will!
