The Glovers this afternoon had their promotion chances dented by a resolute Millwall side, who came out 1-0 winners thanks to an early goal from Ben May, during what was largely a disappointing display from the Somerset team.

Coming into the game Russell Slade was forced into one major change of personnel, with Scott Guyett coming in for Terry Skiverton who had failed to recover from a virus infection picked up during the week.

The formation also changed, with the previous 4-3-3 being modified to a more conventional 4-4-2 line-up, with Peter Sweeney coming onto the left wing for his debut.

This then saw the team made up of Steve Mildenhall in goal, with Guyett joined in defence by Terrell Forbes, Andy Lindegaard and Nathan Jones.

With Sweeney on the left, the midfield was completed by Chris Cohen and Jean-Paul Kalala in the centre, Arron Davies on the right, with Marcus Stewart and Leon Best up front.

The game started off in a highly competitive manner, with crunching tackles coming in from both sides as they vied for some early advantage.

It soon settled though, with both teams attempting to play some passing football, with Davies, Sweeney, Kalala and Stewart impressing early on for Yeovil.

With the Glovers getting into some good positions, they had a decent penalty appeal in the 6th minute when Best appeared to be flattened in the box, but the referee disappointed the home support by waving play on.

Ben May went close for the Lions a minute later with a clever flick in the box that went just wide of the post, and his side were edging their way on top.

On 10 minutes the Glovers had their best chance to date when Stewart fed Cohen on the left in what was a lovely move - the former West Ham man moving down the wing to cross over for Davies to hit his shot just over the bar.

Just over a minute later Millwall took the lead.

Marvin Elliott made a good run down the right side, and getting to the line he wrong footed and went past Nathan Jones to get in a short cross to Ben May to shoot from a few yards out.

Mildenhall did well to get a hand to it, but despite his worthy effort  the ball ended up in the back of the net, and the away support was in full celebration.0-1.

The Glovers showed good spirit and continued with their quest for goals, with some measured attacks, with Sweeney, Cohen and Jones seeing a good amount of the ball.

However, the visitors were having the better of the play, with May, Byfield, Ardley and Phillips looking constant threats as they knocked the ball around confidently in midfield.

The game was largely a scrappy affair though, but with the Glovers trying in vain to create themselves many chances.

They were persistent though, and still had a reasonable measure of the game, with Best going close on 26 minutes as he stretched for his shot after a good ball in from Sweeney.

This seemed to herald a better period of play for the Glovers, with them enjoying a lot more of the possession and attack in the final fifteen minutes - Sweeney, Best, Stewart and Cohen playing some good football.

The Lions tried to counteract this by upping their physical side, and gained several bookings in the process as they attempted to thwart an improving Yeovil.

Shots came in from both Cohen and Sweeney, but as the game moved rapidly to half time the Glovers still couldn't get on the score sheet, and unfortunately went in at the break a goal down.

Half Time - Yeovil Town: 0  Millwall: 1

The second half continued to be a largely scrappy affair, though the Glovers did show good promise early on, getting in some reasonable attacks, with Stewart, Sweeney and Best seeing plenty of the ball.

They still failed to play with their usual fluidity, being allowed very little time on the ball by an enthusiastic Millwall, who in turn always looked dangerous in attack.

The Glovers were seeing more possession though, and trying their best to penetrate the opposition defence, but in truth the game had gone a little flat.

Things did start to improve, with the first Yeovil chance created on 62 minutes when having done well to control a difficult ball, Stewart swung in a good cross to Best to head just over the bar at the far post.

Russell Slade brought on Martin Brittain on 64 minutes in a like for like substitution for Arron Davies, and with the crowd upping the volume the Glovers started to show some improvement.

Brittain was making a difference though, making a number of decent runs down the right, and getting crosses in the box too, but with the Millwall defence in determined mood, only the odd half chance was created.

Lee Morris was introduced on 75 minutes for Stewart, and had an immediate impact on the game flicking the ball nicely to Best in the box soon after coming on, but the big striker shot straight at the grateful Pidgeley in the Lions' goal.

Millwall were closing Yeovil down at every opportunity now, and in that respect stifling them.

One last throw of the dice on 82 minutes saw Wayne Gray come on for Lindegaard, as the Glovers went to a 3-4-3,attempting to grab a goal and get something from the match.

Millwall were now looking to slow things right down, happy to see the game limp to it's end.

Still Yeovil attempted to attack though, but as the minutes started to tick towards the end of the game, it was looking increasingly as if this was not going to be their day.

As the game reached the 90-minute mark the referee announced six minutes of time added on, and with the enthusiastic home support adding their voice to the attack, the Glovers ended the match in full swing.

Morris went close with a good effort on 91 minutes which was well held by the 'keeper, with Brittain trying his luck shortly after from just outside the box, shooting just wide.

A couple of corners followed, with Mildenhall adding his presence to the attack, the second of which saw Guyett unluckily head on to the top netting.

The Glovers tried everything in an attempt to get that all-important goal, but try as they might the opposition held strong, and Yeovil ended the afternoon with nothing to show for their efforts.

This had been a disappointing performance from the Glovers, who on the day failed to break down a Millwall side that came South in determined mood.

Russell Slade now has a week to lift his team ahead of the long trip up to Carlisle,  where he will be looking to get them back on the winning trail, with the promotion chase back on track.
