Three first half goals were enough to clinch automatic promotion for a rampant Forest side, but Yeovil pushed them all the way in a thrilling match in front of a packed City Ground crowd.

It was somewhat ironic that that the City Ground should be the venue of yet another Forest v Yeovil clash with such huge stakes at stake.

But while Forest's main attention was promotion Russell Slade's was most certainly sorting out his team for next season, and this was obviously at the forefront of his mind after the game.
"We need to know where we are going next season and Martyn Starnes needs to give me direction so I know which players will be leaving and which players we need to bring in.

"Next week will be very busy but we've got more time to plan this time around because we are not in the play offs.
"It's an exciting time for us because we've got some good young players in the squad who I hope will continue to improve and we need to mix that with some experienced heads and get the right blend.

"Skipper Terry Skiverton is very important to us. He's awesome and is a big part of things and I'm hoping he'll sign next week."
For the third time in a row Slade was able to field an unchanged side sticking to his favoured away format of 4-4-1-1 with Marcus Stewart up front and Jamie Peters beginning to revel in his new role just behind the main striker.

Forest took an early lead and as two stricken Yeovil defenders lay on the ground Julian Bennett reacted first after winning the ball from Marvin Williams, and rifled the ball home from 15 yards.

Perhaps the MIB was somewhat lacking in not blowing up for a foul on Williams but it was just the start Forest needed.

With the full house crowd cheering them on Forest went further in front when Lee Peltier was caught dwelling to long on the ball and was robbed by Kris Commons.

Commons worked a good one-two with Brett Ormerod before scoring past an advancing Steve Mildenhall.

Yeovil's response though was almost immediate as Jaime Peters waltzed his way through the Forest defence and after a quick exchange with Marcus Stewart scored with ease from six yards out.

It was game on again as the nerves started to surface for the Forest players but in the 28th. minute, a foul by skipper Terry Skiverton on former team mate Chris Cohen, gave the home side a free kick in a dangerous position in front of goal.
McGugan didn't refuse this golden chance and he blasted the ball into the net over the inadequate Yeovil wal,l with Mildnehall caught wrong footed out of position.

Yeovil had to do it all again to have any chance in the second half and were unlucky when Marcus Stewart set up Marvin Williams with a great ball but the winger could only slice his shot wide when in a great position.

It was much the same fare in the second half with chances being created at both ends.

Nathan Smith, having yet another inspired game, set up Stewart for a chance, while at the other end Lee Peltier cleared a shot from Nathan Tyson of the line.

Forest nerves began to strain again in the 74th. minute when substitute Andy Kirk headed in a cross from Marc Bircham, but in the end Forest finished the stronger and clinched automatic promotion to the delight of their success starved fans.

As the Forest fans invaded the pitch the Yeovil players managed to safely leave the pitch, as they reflected on a season that promised so much but ended in their lowest finish in League One.
