Yeovil Town slumped to another away defeat after the encouraging display that saw them beat promotion hopefuls Doncaster Rovers on Good Friday.

After a seven hour coach trip, and in blustery conditions, the Glovers looked jaded with the long trip obviously haven taken its toll.

But manager Russell Slade didn't feel that some players did themselves justice: "There were one or two who are lacking a bit of consistency, because there were some good performances against Doncaster, but there were one or two who let themselves down today.

"We want to get as many wins as we can, but in terms of safety one more might be enough."

With question marks hanging our Terry Skiverton's health following his virus the manager felt it necessary to sign on left sided defender Nathan Smith from non-league Potters Bar on non contract forms and Smith duly took his place on the bench.

Skiverton in fact was risked in an unchanged team that saw another chance for young Irish midfielder Stephen Maher.

Hartlepool suffered a nightmare start as they lost Collins and Barker to injury within the first 18 minutes, but it was one of their replacements James Brown who was to cause major problems for The Glovers.

A quick Hartlepool attack caught Yeovil out in the strong wind in the 28th. minute and as Flinders reacted to a back pass he only managed to slice the ball out.

Hartlepool took the throw quickly and Porter managed to outwit Terry Skiverton on the byline and managed a perfect pass into the path of sub James Brown who smashed the ball past a helpless Flinders.

Yeovil's first real chance came as late as the 34th. Minute when Stewart and Maher linked for Marcus Stewart to fire in a great header but 'Pool keeper Lee-Barrett pushed the ball around the post for a corner.

'Pool nearly went two ahead just before half time when McCunnie found danger man Brown and he forced a superb reaction save from Scott Flinders.

When Yeovil came out for the second half the weather, which they had hoped would come to their aid, had changed with the wind all but disappearing.

Yeovil tried in vain to raise their game in an effort to get back into the match and Marcus Stewart nearly set up Andy Kirk with a great ball in but unfortunately the ex. Northampton man was just in front of the ball and the initiative was lost.

Russell Slade brought on new signing Nathan Smith for Jean Francoise Christophe on the hour and the youngster made a bright start to his League debut.

On 67 minutes Monkhouse took advantage of some sloppy Yeovil play on the right and his cross was met perfectly by Porter again giving Flinders no chance.

As the game drew to a close Yeovil could have grabbed an unlucky point when first a superb volley from Stewart only went just wide and then substitute Marvin Williams hit a post from 12 yards in stoppage when he really should have hit the target.

But as the manager summed up at the end: "We had three decent chances in the second half and were probably unfortunate not to get a goal but maybe the same could be said of Hartlepool."

So it's now onwards to a clash with Bristol Rovers for what will be their ninth game in a month and Russell Slade will be hoping those games have taken their toll on The Pirates as The Glovers strive to get that final three points that should secure their League One status for another season.
